Massage Therapy

Therapeutic massage can be dated back to 2000 BCE and has developed into one of the most widely used health modalities in the world. Cultures around the world have embraced massage each with their own speciality.

Massage therapy is extremely beneficial when used for injury rehabilitation, chronic pain management and postural balancing.

Ayurveda massage originated in Indian, Swedish and Petrissage in Europe and Lomilomi in Hawaii are just a few of the modalities that are popular not only within their own area of origin but have expanded in use around the world.

Within British Columbia we are fortunate that registered massage therapy has become a regulated profession adhering to high standards of practice and code of ethics.

It is a highly regarded part of the medical community as massage therapists work alongside naturopaths, physiotherapist and chiropractors. A registered massage therapist in BC is permitted to work with patients on medical claims (ICBC, WCB, DVA and RCMP) and is often covered by personal or corporate extended health insurance.

Increase Relaxation While Decreasing Pain

Therapeutic massage is known widely for its effect on the nervous system and its ability to help increase relaxation while decreasing pain. However, it is also extremely beneficial when used for injury rehabilitation, chronic pain management and postural balancing. Commonly treated conditions are (but not limited too): Tension headaches, migraines, strains, sprains, bursitis, tendonitis (ie. golfers and tennis elbow), fibromyalgia, sciatic pain, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and generalized tension.

What to expect in your treatment session:

Your first appointment should be at least 60 minutes in length. This allows time for your massage therapist to assess your health history and present condition.

Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first appointment to allow time to fill out our health history form. If possible, it is beneficial to have a list of all medications and health conditions.

After a short interview and assessment your therapist will work with you to make a treatment plan.

Once the massage therapist has explained what your treatment session will look like she will leave the room allowing you to disrobe the appropriate clothing and get on the massage table between the sheets.
When the treatment begins the massage therapist will only drape the area being worked on. Please let the therapist know if her pressure is too much or too little.

Your therapist will let you know when the treatment is over at which time she will leave the room to allow you to redress. Please take your time getting off the massage table and let us know if you would like any assistance.

People often find they may be a bit sore for 24-48 hours after their treatment. This should resolve within the 48 hours and should only be a mild feeling.

Please feel free to call your therapist with any concerns or questions you may have before or after your treatment.
